Project
"The natural environment of Mount Ida", Crete, Greece 2010 |
Zoniana, a small village located in the mountain Psiloreitis, in the island of Crete, and its surrounds is the epicenter of the project. The project, aims to reveal the natural environment of the area, by attracting certain tourist target groups and creating new opportunities for the local population. The canyon that ends inside the village was the main intervention point along with “satellites” areas that support the whole project. Some of the local materials – such as stone, concrete, metal panels and wire nets – are selected for all the new constructions so as to enforce the unique character of the place. A signage study is applied and all new features (benches, signs, water founts, info points e.t.c.) are made of the materials above. When needed, the soil is rearranged and enhanced and small parking areas are configured.
