Mixed use complex in ex – factory in Nayplion site, Greece 2008 |
Nayplion, the historical city in eastern Peloponnesus is characterized by its unique landscape and architecture. The new complex, built in an ex – factory site (apartments and a mall) is using the existing city scale and “language”: the nearby streets, blocks, parks and squares. A long green axe crosses the complex from north to south ending to a new square inside the complex. All parking places needed are found in the underground level. All city features like for example the street and square dimensions, the public and private space proportions, the old facades and the cityscape from the nearby historic hill are revalued and introduced to the complex. There has been a huge effort to introduce different types of apartments so as to have a more interesting facade outcome.
