architectural competition
Athens x 4 2010 *in collaboration with: B. Ioannou, M. Voreakou, A. Gontinou |
The Greek city is characterized by the small size of its blocks and a very dense road net. We were asked to create a larger city block by introducing new ideas for the inside crossroad (x) of the blocks.
This proposal aims to reveal the hidden earth inside the city (the soil and vegetation) and to activate the senses (view, touch, smell) of the Athenians. The new pavement has a three – scale density according to the uses allowing the spontaneous growth of the vegetation. The rainwater is been collected into underground basins, the plantations are carefully placed according to the sun orientation and regarding the temporal needs and the potential uses of the neighborhood.
